Can it replace an external SSD?

For cloud file access, moving between Macs, and handing off project folders, Orbit can take the place of carrying a physical drive. Download selected folders before you disconnect to bring those files with you. Cloud capacity comes from your provider; offline copies use space on your Mac.

Choose the right home for the job.

Use Offline Orbit for selected folders you need without internet. A local SSD remains useful for large libraries and workloads that need fast, consistent disk access. Cloud transfers depend on your connection and provider, and storage and transfer charges apply. Keep a separate backup of important files.

Keep selected folders on your Mac for the flight, the commute, or a place without Wi-Fi. Choose download-only copies or let Orbit sync your offline edits back to the cloud.

    Choose what comes with you.

    While connected, go to My drive → Offline Orbit → Keep a folder offline. Select a regular-drive folder and wait for its download to finish.

  2. 02

    Work without a connection.

    Use Open local copy to reach the downloaded files in your Mac’s Orbit Offline folder. They stay available without internet, even when Orbit is closed.

    Sync when you’re back.

    Enable Sync offline edits back to the cloud when adding a folder for two-way syncing. While Orbit is running, it checks the active connection every two minutes and when the network returns. You can also choose Sync now.

Only folders you choose are downloaded, and local copies use disk space. Conflicting edits keep both versions; deletions pause sync for review. Download-only mode does not upload local edits. The normal cloud drive and Orbit Encrypted vaults still require internet. Stop syncing keeps your local files.

Access stays with your provider.

Give each teammate their own authorized access to the same bucket or remote folder. Connect it in Orbit on their Mac. Orbit doesn’t create team accounts or manage invitations and permissions.

Coordinate edits to the same file: Orbit doesn’t provide live co-editing, file locking across Macs, or conflict merging. For a shared encrypted folder, authorized users also need its original vault password.

04 / PRIVATE BEFORE UPLOAD

Your files go up.
Your privacy comes first.

Orbit’s optional encrypted folder uses rclone crypt. Encryption happens on your Mac, before file contents and names reach the storage provider.

    Create your vault.

    Choose a password and keep a separate recovery copy. You can remember it in this Mac’s Keychain for future unlocks.

  2. 02

    Add private files.

    Save inside Orbit Encrypted in Finder, or choose encryption for a bulk import. File contents and names are encrypted locally as they upload.

  3. 03

    Unlock when you need them.

    Orbit verifies your vault password, then opens a decrypted view on your Mac. Locking the vault removes that mounted view.

Encryption applies to files in the encrypted folder, not every file on your regular cloud drive. Approximate file sizes and modification times remain visible. Opened files may be cached locally by macOS or other apps. If you lose both your password and its Keychain copy, the encrypted files cannot be recovered. Read about rclone crypt ↗

05 / FIND YOUR SPACE

Connect DigitalOcean Spaces, Amazon S3, Cloudflare R2, Backblaze B2 through S3, Wasabi, and other S3-compatible storage. Azure Blob and additional cloud drives connect through an existing rclone configuration.

Do I have to enter my keys every time?

Orbit remembers S3 access keys in macOS Keychain and saves your connection profiles. Vault passwords can also be remembered in Keychain. Cloud-drive sign-ins and tokens stay in your selected rclone configuration. macOS may ask you to authorize Keychain access.

Does Orbit store my files on Juracich’s servers?

Your files go to the storage account you connect. Orbit is the Mac app that connects to it. You manage storage, permissions, and billing with your provider.

Does it work without internet?

Yes—for folders you download first with My drive → Offline Orbit → Keep a folder offline. Use Open local copy to work without internet, even with Orbit closed. Enable two-way syncing to upload offline edits and download cloud changes when you’re online and Orbit is running. Only selected folders are stored locally; the normal cloud mount and encrypted vaults remain online-only.

How do I get started?

Orbit is currently a Mac preview distributed directly by Juracich. Contact us for access and setup. You’ll need a compatible Mac, rclone installed, and your own cloud storage account. This page does not yet offer a public installer.
